Hello,

You are having feelings of something being stuck in your throat since last week. It commonly occurs due to medical conditions like GERD, sinusitis, post-nasal drip, a swollen thyroid gland, or goiter, cricopharyngeal spasm. Globus pharyngeus can cause a person to feel as if there is a persistent lump in the throat despite there being no presence of a physical blockage.

Globus pharyngeus, causes persistent clearing of the throat and is commonly treated with PPIs, symptomatic treatment and Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), treatment for psychological conditions that can cause physical symptoms. You are suggested to get clinically examined by an ENT, you will have to go through blood works and investigations like laryngoscopy, pharyngoscopy, CT, MRI to detect the pathology causing you symptoms.

If throat cancer is suspected the treating doctor will do investigations like Positron emission tomography (PET) scan and Endoscopic biopsy. Your treatment will depend on the pathology detected and diagnosis made. You should stay away from smoke or use tobacco, alcohol, drugs, or any other addiction.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
