Is Fluid Build Up With Low Heart Function Rate A Cause For Concern?

My father has 15% heart function and has been in hospital. He had much fluid build up which they got a good bit off. He had been totally confused and mostly slept and didn t know us. He is doing better but wanted to know what to expect from this. Is there any kind of time period. I will go see him often and hopefully he will come home in two to three weeks

Hello There

After going through your medical query I understand your concern and I would like to tell you that 15% heart function is very less and fluid build up in this can cause sudden cardiac arrest and lead to death. Keep is fluid intake less than 700 ml/ day and if his blood pressure is mota than 120/80 you can increase his diuretic dose after consulting his physician.

Hopefully this information will guide you properly.

Kind Regards
Dr Bhanu Partap
