Is Flying Safe While Suffering From An Ear Infection?

I had a flu and i was reading that if you blow your nose too hard which i did bacteria can go to the middle ear and make an infection. I am not sure if i have an infection. I dont have pain but my ears are ringing and i feel pressure in them. And i have to fly in 48 hours. I read very bad things about flying with an middle ear infection.

Hi Dear,

Understanding your concern. As per your query you are suffering from ear infections which leads to fluid accumulation behind the eardrum leads to reduced hearing tendency and could be due to eustachian tube dysfunction. I would suggest you to consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated. You should go for otoscopy examination as well to find out cause and exact extent of infection. Fly only after proper examination to physician as sometimes it builds much ear pressure which can leads to perforation. You should take antibiotic and anti-inflammatory drugs combination. For infection in ear antibiotic ear drops and decongestant nasal sprays can help. Maintain cleanliness of area.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
