Is General Anesthesia Only Solution For Brain Shunt Insertion?

Hello Dr. Gopi.

How is it determined whether or not a patient is able to go through general anesthesia with an Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator?

My father's neurologist questioned if it would be okay to have general or if it would be better to have local for a potential brain shunt insertion. His cardiologist indicated that he would be fine to go ahead with general.

Thank you for your time and assistance.
