Is Getting An ECG Done Before A Competitive Run Advisable?

I m 69 years old and have been running competitively for 20 years. I plan to run into my 70 s competitively if possible. eight years ago i had a issue with PVC and PAC that seemed to have gone away for the most part. Question: Should i have an echo cardiogram to be certain that things are normal in my heart? I had one performed in 2006 and all seemed ok then. Well, Dr. no need to respond. thanks anyway

Hi,

Ectopic beats are common and if asymptomatic does need to. Be concerned about.

If you have no previous history of chest pain, no. Shortness of breath, or any other cardiac issue, then there is no need to get an ecg or echo done. You may participate in the run without any worries.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
