Is Giving Tegretol Advisable To Treat Leg Stiffness While Having Myotonia Congenita?

My son has myotonia congenita..... it normally does not affect him much. He is 15 and has recently started football. His legs have been locking up consistently during practice. Is there something I can give him over the counter to help decrease symptoms? We have opted to not give him prescription tegretol due to risk of side effects and that it really wasn t bothering him. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hello,

Yes for Myotonia congenita you can give Tegretol. And physiotherapy. Or any other anticonvulsant drugs like quinine, phenytoin can use. Consult your doctor and do.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
