Is Gout, Associated With Toe Pain And Discoloration?

I am in excellent health as a 65 yr old white active female. Tonight I had an unexpected excruciating pain under my toenail of my big toe. I have taken Tylenol and Ibprofen and that does not comE close to relieving the deep throbbing pain. The top of my toe is a bit dis colored and my toe is slightly swollen. gout? How would I know if it could be vascular issue? Thank you!

Hi.

The discolouration does point towards this being a vascular issue, and as the pain seems severe I would recommend urgent management and a visit to either a good vascular surgeon or the ER (not always recommended because I do not think the team of doctors there are always well experienced). But the threshold of pain and discolouration does point towards a vascular issue, which will then be followed by gradual loss in sensation and numbness of the region with further discolouration after which things will only get grim.

Best wishes.
