Is Growth Scan At 37 Weeks Showing Biparietal Diameter 3 Weeks Behind And In 5th Percentile Concerning?
I just had a growth scan at 37 weeks, they are saying the biparietal diameter is measuring 3 weeks behind and in the 5th percentile. I know the baby's head is really low and it might be hard to get a measurement. 2 weeks ago I had an ultrasound and it was measuring small, but less significantly. How concerned should I be?
I am so sorry to hear about this result. From the information you have provided, it is concerning that the child may have a small head or is facing some difficulties with the growth of his head. There are other parameter that can be looked at to tell whether the child is uniformly small or just the head is. this would be more guiding to give a specific answer. You should ask your doctor if only the head is small or all the other parts as well. It could be microcephaly or growth retardation depending on the response.
I hope this addresses your query fully. Feel free to ask for clarifications and more information if need be. I wish you well. Thanks for utilizing our services, we very much appreciate it. Dr. Ditah, MD.
