Is Having Dark Stools Post Laparoscopic Appendectomy Normal?

Just got back from laparoscopic appendectomy. Feel great buck first bowel movement was very dark. Is that normal? Little nervous because I had a esophagus tear a few years ago and this was the first sign of big issue. I would assume being the appended hooked to stomach...pretty normal? D

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

It is pretty normal to get black bowel movement the first time after laparoscopic appendectomy. This is due to blood clearing out of your guts after the surgery.

Keep following up with your caring doctor. Should follow diet changes as recommended by your doctor rigorously.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Albana Sejdini, General & Family Physician
