Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My hemoglobin is at 7.5 as of a week ago and today I started my monthly menses which is generally very bad. I see hematology late in the afternoon tomorrow but I have to go in to work in the morning. Is there anything I can do to be safe until I get to this appointment?
Unfortunately there are no home treatments that would help to raise your hemoglobin or decrease your period intensity.
There are medications that can help to decrease the period such as norethisterone or hormonal contraceptives. Your GP or gynaecologist may prescribe one of these for you.
The use of foods with iron would help to raise the hemoglobin but this would be a slow process eg green leafy vegetables, liver, red meat, beans, iron fortified foods.
I hope this helps
