Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
How come there is no cure for herpes by now with so many people having it? My friend has it and contact it from a Rape years ago and refuses to date. She wants to date but fearful that she maybe frowned upon. How can I help her to see that it s okay to still live?
Treatment of herpes focuses on getting rid of sores and limiting outbreaks. Antiviral medications such as acyclovir, famciclovir, valacyclovir can help people infected with the virus reduce the risk of transmitting it to others. The medications also help to lower the intensity and frequency of outbreaks. The diagnosis of genital herpes can cause feelings of shame, fear and distress. While these reactions are normal, it is important to remember that genital herpes is a manageable condition.
Many patients find that counseling, either with their family healthcare provider or a mental health professional, is helpful in dealing with the issues that come with a diagnosis of genital herpes. There are many genital herpes support groups that provide a safe environment for people to share their experiences and feelings, and also to learn accurate information about the disease.
Hope that was helpful. Let me know if I can assist you further.
