Is High Buspar Dosage Safe For The Treatment Of Dementia?

Thanks! My mother is in a nursing home, has dementia and takes several anxiety meds. Recently the doctor wanted to raise her Buspra from 5 mg twice daily to 10 mg three times a day because they have bee n giving her PRN lorazapam pretty frequently at night. That seems like a radical increase so I refused. Does this seem like an appropriate increase? She weighs 110 lbs. and is 90 years old.

Hello,

Buspirone can be used to treat behavioural disturbances in dementia patients.

Still, chances are there to develop dementia in elderly patients, but keep in mind that it may decrease anxiety in elderly.

If your observing increased memory disturbances then you may consult your treating doctor he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
