Is Hydrocodone And Dihydrocodeinone The Same Thing?

Is hydrocodone and dihydrocodeinone the same thing? I know they are both pain relievers but are they the same thing or are just prescribed for the same purpose? I know their chemical formulation is slightly different but often times their names are referred to interchangeably?

Hi,

Hydrocodone and dihydrocodeine are both opioid analgesics indicated for the relief of moderate-to-severe pain. Hydrocodone is also being used as an effective cough suppressant. Hydrocodone is also commonly combined with another analgesic, such as paracetamol or aspirin, to increase its effectiveness. The incidence of constipation and abuse potential is higher with hydrocodone. Dihydrocodeine at therapeutic doses causes little or no respiratory depression.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
