Is Hypertension Likely To Be Treated By Using Amlodipine Or Benazepril?

I have hypertension. I have been taking amlodipine/benazepril (Lotrel) for years. This year my insurance changed, and this medication's cost jumped up high. So my doctor changed it to amlodipine besylate 5mg tab and losartan potassium 50mg tab separately to reduce the cost.
My question: will there be much difference between the two? and will the new med be better or worse?

Hi,
There is not much difference in two treatment regimen.
In second regimen amlodipine is continued separately and benazepril is replaced by locating.
Though Benzapril (Angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor) and losartan(Angiotensin receptor blocker) are of different classes, but mode of action, potency in reducing blood pressure, effects on kidney are almost same.
Safety profile of two regimen is also same.

Other important factors that may help you -
1) Salt restricted diet.
2) Intake of fruits and green leafy vegetables.
3) Regular checking of blood pressure, lipid profile, blood sugar levels and keep them under control.
