Is Hysterectomy A Good Treatment Option For Fibroids?

Good Afternoon I am a 39 year old female with fibroid tumors. I have had them since before my children were born; 11 years give or take. I have very long and painful periods. I do not want any more children. Would a hysterectomy be a good option in my case, and if so would kind of hysterectomy would be best? What are the risk factors involved?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
Operative procedures on fibroid uterus is decided based on the location and number of fibroids present, as well as the symptoms they are causing like pain, cramps and irregular menstrual bleeding.
The treatment options available are myomectomy (removal of fibroids only) or hysterectomy (removal of whole of uterus). This can be decided based on clinical examination and ultrasound scan of abdomen.
Kindly consult Gynecologist in this regard to decide to go for the best option that suits you.
All the best.
