Hi,

Hydrocodone is an opioid pain medication that can be used to manage moderate to severe pain. It is generally metabolized by the liver and can cause liver damage if taken in excessive amounts or over a long period.

People with Hep C may be at increased risk of liver damage from hydrocodone due to underlying liver disease. Additionally, people with Hep C may be more likely to develop opioid-related side effects, such as constipation or respiratory depression.

If you have Hep C and are experiencing pain, it is important to talk to your doctor about the risks and benefits of taking hydrocodone. They may recommend alternative pain medications or lower doses of hydrocodone to reduce the risk of liver damage. In some cases, non-opioid pain management techniques, such as physical therapy or acupuncture, may be recommended.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
