Is It Advisable To Fly When Suffering Fron An Ear Infection?
my son is 17 years of age and has a cold for about a week now. He ended up with a ear infection and is being treated with Amoxicilin. His ear is now bleeding a bit along with some other discharge. Now my questions are..... we are flying in a couple of days .... is he okay to fly? what can i do to help him???? do i need to take him to a dr. again before i fly?
hi and thanks for the query, it is advisable to avoid flying during ear infection. but if it cant be avoided then you have to take a few precautions. instill 3 drops of decongestant nose drops like otrivin 3 times a day for 1 day before flying and upto 2 days after flying. drink plenty of water. and do steam inhalation 4 times daily. avoid airconditioning and cold foods. if his ear is discharging he probably requires local antibiotic drops so please see an ENT for a prescription. regards, dr Rajkishori.
