Is It Advisable To Go For Driving Lessons In Case Of Heart Ailments?
Hi i am a driving instructor.
Yesterday a pupil of mine nearly fainted behind the wheel it was only then that she told me she had a blocked artery in her heart valve and had been to hospital twice over the weekend to have some injections to slow her heart down and had also been on the heart machine
I would like a doctors opinion regarding taking her out on further lessons. Should i make sure she is medically fit to drive.
I not sure what to do if i could have some advice would be helpfull. Thanks
Hi, This is Dr Sameer, cardiologist. Ability of a heart patient to drive depends on the current status of a patient. If she had surgery done recently or heart rate has increased recently than their are chances of increasing again after exertion. So it is advisable for such patients to not travel alone. Its better for such patients to avoid driving. If the patient is stable for a long time than he/she can drive safely. Hope you find this helpful Regards Dr Sameer Maheshwari
