Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is It Advisable To Switch To Actalin From Synthroid?
I would like to start taking actalin. I am on .75 of Synthroid. My blood levels of T3and T4 are fine and my TSH has been stable for several years. I am 60 and still active and exercise regularly. But I have a stubborn 15 pounds over the last 3-4 years. I have always been 135-138 my entire life. I now weigh 155. Not happy.
Synthroid contains a hormone similar to the thyroid hormone and is necessary if the thyroid is not producing enough hormone. Actalin is a mix of supplements but does not contain thyroid hormone. If you switch from Synthroid to Actalin you risk to suffer from low thyroid function and you may gain even more weight and have many symptoms due to hypothyroidism.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General and Family Physician
