Is It Advisable To Take 50-100mg Tramadol Daily In Third Trimester Pregnancy?

Can I take 50 to 100mg of tramadol a day during third trimester of pregnancy? I have fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue and depression. It helps with all of these. I ve taken it several times, no more than 50 to 75mg in a day and not two days in a row during second trimester...baby looks fine so far. Doctor prescribed lyrica 100mg 3x daily but the reports on it are worse then the tramadol (so ove not been taking it) and the tramadol works so much better. I m sinking into depression from being in so much pain. Please help!!

Hi dear and thanks for your query.

Opioid analgesics(tramadol) have not been associated with an increase in birth defects or other adverse outcomes such as miscarriage.
There are also reassuring data on longer-term neurodevelopmental follow-up in exposed infants.
The main concern about these drugs is that persistent use may lead to dependence and tolerance in the mother with resultant withdrawal (neonatal abstinence syndrome) in the neonate.
If you have pain you can take it .

All the best
