Is It Advisable To Take Clarithromycin And Chlorpheniramine To Treat Fever, Sore Throat, Runny Nose And Cough?

On Monday morning,i have a slight fever, sore throat,pain behind the socket of my right eye,body ache and diarrea ,running noise. Mucus and phlegm is dark yellow. I visited a doctor and was diagnosed with Year-end Seasonal Flu.I was prescribed to take 2 tabs Anarex,1 tab Dextrome Thorpan HBR 15mg,1 tab Lysozyme 30mg,
1 tab of Chlorpheniramine three times a day.I am prescibed Clarithromycin Antibiotics 2 times a day.
But till now i am still having a bad cough and running nose,bodyaches all over and running an erratic body temperature hovering between 38.4 and 39.5 degrees Celsius.I am worried that some of the symptoms resemble
dengue fever but I do not have a rash at all.

Hello dear,

1.Anarex is a combination of an antipyretic Paracetamol & an antihistamine Orphenadrine, helpful in management of fever & pain.
2. Dextromethorpan is an anti-tussive preparation, provides relief from cough.
3. Lysozyme acts by supplementing the defense mechanism of the body & creates a protective barrier against pathogens.
4. Chlorpheniramine being an anti-histamine preparation provides symptomatic relief from sore throat & runny nose.
5. Clarithromycin is the antibiotic preferred in management of Respiratory tract infection.

So, the medications prescribed by your Doctor are correct. Kindly continue them as advised.
If symptoms still persist, you need to get certain investigations like complete blood count, blood culture & sensitivity, peripheral smear & Dengue check to rule out any pathological cause for the symptoms.
