Is It Advisable To Work With Chemicals With A History Of Asthma?

Hi, I am working with ammonia, hydrogen peroxide and hair dyes as part of my hairdresser training. I have asthma and allergies to certain foodstuffs and allergens. I have noticed itchiness in my throat and ears when exposed to ammonia and dyes. I have also heard that they may reduce my natural immunity. I feel like giving up my course. What is your advice?

Hi, I'am Dr Suresh K Yadav MD (paediatrics), I had gone through your question and understand your concerns,

A person having allergy to something should not work in that environment that is cause of allergy as avoidance of allergens is first step in dealing with allergic problems. If you are allergic and working in that environment , it naturally leads to weakening of body and less immunity. You can also opt for desensitisation to specific allergen that is causing problem to you , if it is essential to continue same work.

Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions

Take care.
