Is It Best To Take Alphamox For Inflamed Tonsils?
I have extremely painful and inflamed tonsils, I can t swallow properly and my ears are blocked and sore. I can t afford to go to a doctor or buy medication until Weds, but I do have a packet of Alphamox in the house. Can I take this to treat myself? Assuming I should also just be resting, and sipping on fluids etc?

I read your question carefully and I understand your concern.
It is difficult to answer this question as you state you can't see a doctor. Alphamox is an antibiotic. It can be used in case of bacterial infection of the tonsils, so if that is the case it is appropriate. On the other hand if it's a viral infection it might have not much effect and you might be taking an unnecessary drug.
To distinguish the type of infection or whether it is an infection at all it is necessary to examine your tonsils I am afraid. So it's tough to recommend a drug. If you are running a fever and really can't see a doctor you can take it, added to the other measures you mentioned.

SINCE YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO MEET A DOCTOR, I WOULD ADVISE ALPHAMOX 500MG WHICH IS AN ANTIBIOTIC THRICE DAILY FOR THREE DAYS.
I WOULD ALSO SUGGEST AN ANTI INFLAMMATORY DRUG LIKE ACECLOFENAC 200MG TWICE DAILY FOR THREE DAYS. SALT WATER GARGLES WITH LUKEWARM WATER WOULD BE VERY MUCH BENEFICIAL. AVOID COLD WATER AND ICE CREAMS. THIS WOULD BE SUFFICIENT . DO GET BACK TO US FOR FURTHER QUERIES. THANKS FOR CHOOSING HCM.
