Is It Concerning That A Patient With A History Of Ground Glass Lung Infiltrates Is Now Asymptomatic?
male patient 45 yold, non-smoker, previous healtly. One year ago, abruptely manifest dispnoea, cough. A CT lung showed bilateral symmetric infiltrates, subpleural with pattern ground glass . The patient was treated with low doses of prednisone (25 mg os for 2 months). He recovered and the lung infiltrates disappeared . Another CT scan , one years after, showed again the same infiltrates with different pattern but the patient is asymptomatic.
Interstitial lung disease or chronic inflammatory diseases can lead to recurrent changes in patterns in the lungs. Sometimes, the initial infection or inflammation may recur even after treatment as it might not have completely got cured. It is possible that the person has developed a new infection or another medical condition.
Immune response can cause changes in symptoms. He is advised to get a follow up clinical examination done. To confirm the bilateral infiltrates the treating doctor may ask for a repeat imaging test and also other blood tests & ultrasound or CT if required.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
