Is It Dangerous To Carry A Dead Foetus In Womb?

hey im lyra 23 yrs. old..was pregnant but the baby stop developing after 9 weeks,the baby is still in my womb,is it dangerous for me?how long usually baby stays in moms womb after the baby gone?im still bleeding right now its almost a week..thank you so much

Hi Ms.lyra,
It is not good to carry a dead fetus for loner period as it may lead to infection, continuous prolonged bleeding, calcification, associated coagulation disorders etc. Surgical evacuation is the ideal method under sterile precautions. Though infection may not be a big risk in early abortions, and spontaneous abortion may occur after sometime, clotting factor defects are a considerable risk and hence active management is better.
