Is It Dangerous To Have Blastocystis During Pregnancy?

Hi, My wife is pregnant and in the first few weeks of pregnancy she found she had Blastocystis (even though we did not travel to any 3rd world countries). The doctor didnt want to treat her due to the strength of the antibiotics. Is there any research regarding the risks of this parasite?

Hi
Dr. Purushottam welcomes you to HCM virtual clinic.
I have gone through your query.
I think I have understood your concern, I will try to suggest you the best possible treatment options.
1] As such there is no data telling hazards of infection on fetus as such. But it may lead to anemia in the mother.
2]Also data suggests, that hardly there are any other treatment options that are safe till 14 weeks of pregnancy.
3] I will suggest to use probiotic Saccharomyces boulardii available as sachets or capsules and Cap Vibact DS , these are helpful microbes in the gut.
4] have good filtered water, healthy and easily digestible food.
I hope my answer helps you.
Thanks.
