Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is It Dangerous To Use Plastic Spoons For Cooking?
My daughter was stirring our dinner with a plastic or rubber big cooking spoon and when she stopped and I looked at it, a small part of the side of the spoon had slightly melted. It doesn t look like anything broke off. Spoon just looks deformed. Is it dangerous to use the pans we were cooking in? Did the spoon melting release toxins into our cookware?
As such, it is not dangerous to use plastic spoons for cooking. The part of the spoon that was deformed must have just melted and it is unlikely that anything fell into your food. None the less, I'd still advise you to use steel or non-plastic spoons. With the high temperatures that is required for cooking, any plastic material would likely melt.
Hope your query is answered. Feel free to ask if you have any doubts.
With warm regards, Dr. Sridhar
