Is It Fine To Take Vaccination When Baby Having A Fever?

My 1 year old baby has had fever that rises and falls, over the past 3 days. She has a phlegmy cough and is now on Ventolin .5ml, Azithromycin and Precort. She is suppose to have her 12 mths vaccination next week. Should I still bother even though she s so sick, or wait?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and welcome to health care magic.
It's not advisable to take vaccination if the baby is sick and have fever. The vaccination can be done after 1 week of the original date.
That is because, most of the vaccination we give are live vaccinations;which means they contain real live organisms in an attenuated state, so that they cannot cause a real infection. But when the baby is sick already, his/her immunity will be low and so the vaccination can produce certain adverse reactions. So just postpone the vaccination fir next week when your bay will be healthy.
Hope this discussion will be helpful to you.
