Is It Good To Be On Gabapentin While Suffering From Severe Headaches?

My doctor , a neuro doctor, that I just started seeing has prescribed gabapentin. Ive had severe headaches for as long as I remember. About 20 years ago I had severe migraines but they only lasted about 2 months and then quit as quick as they started. Then it back to strong headaches. My question is this a good to be on now?

Hi,

Of course it is difficult to make a precise diagnosis of your headache type since you do not provide much info on your age, location, character and frequency of the headaches and accompanying symptoms. I can say that Gabapentin is an approved treatment for the prevention of migraine headaches, so it is a good option for frequent migraine headaches.

Not all migraine prevention medications work in all patients, if it doesn't help there are other options such as antidepressants and anti-hypertensive medication which may be tried.I remain at your disposal for other questions.
