Is It Good To Get Up Often On Crutches To Move Around?
Hi my name is Joanne and I broke my 5th metatarsel 2 and a half weeks ago - the pain has improved a lot but i am concerned as the doctor told me where i broke it there is a very poor blood supply and it is a full break. i went 10 days of it not being in a cast (initial hospital was not good at diagnosing) so i have been in a cast for a week only - my main concerns are: a) lots of yellow bruising - will this go away? b) my toes are not black or blue - is this a good sign that i may not have a DVT? c) i have a desk job that i have only just started and don't want to lose the job - is it good to get up often on crutches to move around? d) how long realistically would i be looking at for healing if no complications? many thanks Joanne.

hi answer to your queries are- 1.yes this will go away as the healing progresses. 2.it's a good sign and that injury is linited. 3.since it's been more than 2 week you can very well move around if necessary. 4.usually 4-6 weeks from date of injury is sufficient for bone union and few weeks more for solid union i.e. consolidation joanne relax and don't worry, you will get over it.
