Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My father in law went to the ER with major gut pain which he has been suffering with for about a month now, but have gotten worse over last week or so. They took xrays and his blood for tests. Xrays showed he was plugged up, which he figured as he hasn t been pooping much. They did a total of 3 enemas on him in about a 3 hour time period. He evacuated some and had some bleeding. He asked about the bleeding and they responded but not really what he could understand. Is it normal to bleed after enemas? Should he return to ER? Will it go away? Also, his gut pain has gotten worse since being released as well. Is that to be expected after enemas as well?
If the stool was hard and difficult to exit, this may cause trauma to the anal region resulting in bleeding which would usually be worse on wiping.
Increased pain should not occur. He may need more in depth imaging than x rays to make sure that there are no other underlying problems.
It would be best for him to go to be reviewed. If possible, he should see a gastroenterologist, a doctor that specializes in conditions of the gastrointestinal tract.
I hope this helps
