Is It Normal For Periods To Stop After Withdrawing From Birth Control Pills?
I am a 52 year old white female. I have been taking birth control pills since age 19, with the exception when I was wanting to have children. My OB/GYN recently had me stop my birth control pills due to she wants to see if my body is in menopause. I saw my doctor on March 23, 2018, and I was instructed to stop my birth control pills and come back in one month for labwork to check for menopause. My last menstrual cycle start date was April 5, 2018. I had the labwork done on 5/4/2018. My question is, my menstrual cycle hasn t begun this month. Should ve started on or around May 3rd. Is this normal to just stop having the cycle? My husband and I have only had intercourse 3 times during this past month and every time a condom was used, and he never ejaculated inside of me. So I don t think there s any possibility that I m pregnant.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice. Menopause can occur anytime after 45 years. So, there is a high possibility that you have attained menopause. Oral contraceptive pills as such do not induce menopause. Regards, Dr Deepti Verma
