Is It Normal For Swelling After Gallbladder Removal To Spread To The Right Labia And Become Painful?

I had my my gallbladder removed 5 days ago and everything seemed normal with the healing except unusual swelling on right near hip bone and close to buttocks. The swelling has now spread to the right labia. I went back to the surgeon after the flank swelling began and was told this was normal and to be patient. Is it also normal for it to spread to the labia and start becoming painful?
