Is It Normal To Get Fevers When Having Bad Migraines?

I suffer from bad migraines and am on preventatives. I ve had an ongoing on for the past 3 or 4 days that calms down & flairs up at times. Yesterday it got pretty bad & I think I had a fever, now my lips are cracked. Is it normal to get fevers with them? Seems like I ve been getting them with the migraines lately.

Hello!

Welcome on HCM!

Regarding your concern, I would explain that it is not normal to have fever during migraine headache.

Fever is usually associated to inflammation or infection.

Besides, inflammation or infection can trigger migraine headaches.

I would recommend consulting with your attending physician for a careful physical examination and some blood lab tests (complete blood count, PCR, sedimentation rate), to exclude possible infection or inflammation.

A sinus X ray study would help exclude possible sinus infection.

Hope to have been helpful!
Best wishes,
Dr. Aida
