Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I went on a beta blocker bisoprolol 5mg last feb for a fast heart rate...not sure what it was. The cardiologist said he didn't feel i needed it but he could see i was upset and scared (i have anxiety) and that the beta blocker would take the edge off. He told me i could wean off anytime. I since have weaned off eight days ago. My heart felt fast again so i called the office and the drs were out friday the nurse spoke to me and said that i could come in to check my bp....it was 98/66 with a heart rate of 100. She said that it was fine and to give it a few more days. I'm going to contact the dr monday but i have a feeling he will say i'm fine just excersice and try and relax. I've been to the ER not latley but they all seem to think its something i have to learn to live with. Is it normal to have a heart rate of 100 for long? I have not been real active. I'm female 36 about 133lbs.
Hello, Its not entirely normal to have a resting heart rate of 100, but likely cause for it may be anxiety, stress or exercise or walking rapidly just prior to measurement or excessive anxiety just prior measurement. Also, other causes includes low hemoglobin or excessive thyroid hormones in the body, too much coffee or smoking etc. So next time, you preferably count the pulse rate at home and after a rest of 5-10 minutes. Also, get hemoglobin and thyroid tested. Hope this helps you and get back if you have any questions.
