Is It Normal To Have Fever And Itching Around Surgical Incisions After A Simple Surgery, Taking Motrin?

Surgery was Friday, Jan 3. Absolutely the easiest surgery I've ever experienced. After a week of being in the house and not seeing my grandson, my husband took me to see him. Also stopped at a store but I stayed in the car. When I got home I felt really tired and took a nap. When I awoke, I had fever of 100. There's no pain anywhere. No burning. Itching around my incisions but that's it. No other problems. Took 800 mg of Motrin. Is this to be expected. Thanks!

Hello and welcome to HCM,
Fever following surgery is suggestive of infection.
It is unlikely to have fever of 100 degree centigrade without a focus of infection.
You need to consult your surgeon for clinical examination of the surgical incision and complete blood work up.
Pain usually accompanies pus collection in the surgical wound.
Tiredness along with fever is also suggestive of infection.
In the meanwhile, do not touch or manipulate the wound and you can take anti-pyeretic to control fever.
Touching the wound with unsterile hands can also lead to infection.

Thanks and take care
