Is It Normal To Have Secretion From Colon Post Surgery?

Hi, my name is Marlene. I had surgery on 10/13 as an out patient. Up to this point it has been painful, however i see improvement every day. My question: Is it normal for small amounts of secretion to pass through the colon everyday at this point? My age is 69, in excellent health, no weight problem and never smoked.

Hi.

You did not mention what type of surgery you underwent but whether it was to do with the colon itself or not, it can take the colon some time to get used to passing bowels normally. But if this continues for more than a week post-operatively then please report this to your doctor as it could be a case of iatrogenic fecal incontinence.

Best wishes.
