Is It Normal To Have Tenderness And Puffiness Of Vagina During Pregnancy?
I am 39+2 days pregnant and have been experiencing Braxton hicks for over 3weeks. My concern is that I am finding it very hard to walk over these past 2days since I have had my sweep. My vagina is very tender and puffy, is this normal before giving birth?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi, I understand your concern. Tenderness/ puffiness of vagina is a part of body reaction to baby's decent in pelvis & there by exerting pressure on pelvis/ pelvic floor. The ligaments are loosened at late pregnancy which allow the fetus to press down & exert pressure on vagina. causing swelling/ pain. You have to have hot water washes to clean the part/ relieve pain. Braxton hicks contractions are painless tightening of uterus .. are present after 6th month of pregnancy. What you have might be mild labor pain. You should contact your birth assistance ..once you start getting repeated pains with pelvic pressure & increased vaginal discharge . Thanks,
