Is It Normal To Vomit Fluids While On Chemotherapy?
Hi, my husband has been diagnosed with colon cancer. He had a portion of his colon removed in Nov 13 and went for 3 sessions of chemo, his count spiked and was operated again. Another part of his colon was removed, (no stoma), together with apportion of his small intestine and a stomach muscle as well as part of his stomach/abdominal lining?. They also cleaned around his pancreas. He has now had a port inserted and will begin new chemo on Monday. he vomits a lot of fluids about every hour, (up to 2 glasses). the contents changes between brown and yellow water. Please tell me what is happening.
Vomiting fluids is very common during chemotherapy. For preventing it i would suggest metoclopramide tablets thrice daily for 5 days starting from day after chemotherapy. As the agents used in chemotherapy is highly emetogenic taking anti vomiting drugs prevents it occurence and improves quality of life. Regards DR De
this is a known and a common side-effect of chemotherapy. Though one should not avoid chemotherapy at any cost as it is life-saving, you can ask your doctor to give powerful anti-emetic medicines,. It is worthwile to have dry snacks like biscuits and cornflakes etc which have less tendency to cause vomiting after consumption. Take liquids in small quantity but frequently, like 1/2 cup of juice or milk every 20-30 minutes to keep the nutrition and avoid vomiting. take care wish you good health
