Is It Ok To Fly With A Knee Injury?

My mother fell and landed on her knee in a parking lot on August 1st. She is 57 years old. On August 2nd, she left for a trip to Europe. Her knee is very bruised and still swollen as of today (August 9th). She should be returning August 12th. She has not gotten her knee looked at by a doctor. She is doing a lot of walking/stair climbing during her travels. Is it ok for her to fly?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Thank you for writing to HCM

If your mom had a fracture she wouldn't be able to walk or climb stairs.
If you have a doubt of hairline fracture I would advice you to take an xray and consult an orthopedician.
It's ok to fly, for few hours. I won't recommend long travel more than 6hrs without consulting doctor in person. As embolism may occur n cause problem.
Take care
Regards
