Is It Possible For Esophagus To Close Up?

My boyfriend had a really weird thing happen to him today. He said his esophagus closed up on him to the point where he couldn't swallow and could barely breathe. The symptom went away after a few moments with no further ill effects. What could this mean?

Well come to HCM
This is not the case, esophagus can not be close like this, there are certain conditions in that this can cause difficulty in swallowing but not closed, and this does not happens at once, unless in case of chocking due to some hard material, (Swallowed accidently) but of course this can be possible in functional condition only, hope this information helps, take care, have a nice day.
