Is It Possible To Get A STD From Kissing Someone?

Hi I'm 17, 5'7, and 110 pounds. I'm also female. I'm a virgin but I made out with a guy I didn't know that well. I don't know if he had any sores in his mouth or not and I'm really scared that I could get something from him. Is it possible to get a STD from kissing someone?

thank you for query. There are diseases which can be transmitted by skin to skin contact, by kiss also. These may be simple infections or these may be STD causing organisms. The STD organisms which can spread with kiss also are Herpes simplex virus 1 and 2, human papiloma virus etc.so the disease transmission by kiss is more when there are active lesions than when inactive. You can get back directly to me for any clarifications .Dr Bharatesh D Basti Dermatologist and Venereologist.
