Hi,

The clumping of the nerve roots in the cauda equina area can be due to arachnoiditis and is an inflammatory reaction causing the nerves to stick to each other. They can cause symptoms like severe pain, paresthesia and numbness.

There is also a fat containing likely benign tumour in the lower part of the spinal cord. Usually, people might benefit from surgery done to release the adhering nerve roots.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Vivek Chail, Radiologist
