Is It Safe For A Pregnanct Woman To Eat Turkey Microwaved In A Plastic Covered Dish?
I'm cooking a small turkey and I put it in the oven in a casserole dish that had plastic wrap on top (clearly I was not paying attention). I just checked on it and realized what I did. The plastic melted on the turkey but i think I pulled it all off. Is this ok to eat? I'm 29 weeks pregnant so I really don't want to get sick.
I understand your situation. Unfortunately no one can be completely sure if chemicals from the plastic have not entered the turkey. Plastics are not safe for humans and contain some chemicals like BPA and pthalates that are toxic to us. The effects may not be sudden but they are known to be related to certain cancers like cancer breast.
It is difficult to predict the exact effect on the baby but if a similar patient walked into my clinic, I would definitely advise to sacrifice the turkey rather than take any risk.
