Is It Safe To Discontinue Oxybutynin While Treating Mascular Degeneration?

Hello Dr, I am a 77 year old female fairly healthy individual individual with dry macular degeneration that is getting worse, take blood pressure meds, keeping under control, live alone. My question is I have been taking Oxybutynin 5mg going on 4 months and would like to see if I now longer need it and just use pulls ups if needed. May I safely just stop the medicine? Thank you for you answer Sue Wilson

Hi,

I don't see how it interacts with the eye disease. It changes the autonomic tone of the eye and this is likely to affect tear production and might even perhaps change ocular pressures but without a history of glaucoma, this is most.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
