Hello!
Thanks for using healthcaremagic.com
I read carefully your question and understand your concern.
I think you are having Lactic Acidemia Associated with Metformin.
This is pretty common among my patients. When they consult me about to discontinue Metformin i tell them to do it in order to avoid several undesired symptoms
I tell them to get emergency
medical help if they are having any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; Swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Some patients develop
lactic acidosis while taking metformin. Early symptoms may worsen over time and this condition can be fatal. Seek emergency medical help if you have mild or several symptoms.
Avoid drinking alcohol. It reduces your blood sugar and may increase your risk of lactic acidosis while taking metformin.
Avoid taking digoxin;
furosemide.
You are more likely to have
hyperglycemia (high blood sugar) if you take metformin with other drugs that raise blood glucose, such as:
Phenytoin;
Birth control pills or
hormone replacement therapy;
Diet pills or medicines for the treatment of asthma, colds or allergies;
A diuretic or "pill to remove water";
Heart or blood pressure medicine;
Niacin (Advicor, Niaspan, Niacor, Simcor, Slo-Niacin, and others);
Phenothiazines (Compazine et al.);
Steroid medicines (
prednisone,
dexamethasone, and others); or
Thyroid medicine (Synthroid and others).
Kind regards,
Dr. Oscar Martinez
