Is It Safe To Do Abortion At Home In The 6th Week Of Pregnancy?
hello doctor. My name is Navneet Kaur. It has been 7 months of our marriage and now I am pregnant. I got my last periods on 10th of February. After an ultrasound on the date of 20th march it says 1. the sac is of 12.2mm in diameter correspondingto 5 weeks 0 day of gestational age. 2. No fetal node seen. 3. the choriodecidual reaction around the sac is moderate. 4. No abnormal adenexal mass noted 5. the cervical os is closed 6. urinary bladder is normal. But now, in the 6th week I want to do an abortion. Kindly let me know that is it safe? and can I do it at home itself without consulting a doctor and by taking Misoprostol? Pls help ASAP.
Hello and welcome to HCM, I am Dr Nilajkumar a consultant gynecologist and I will be helping you in your queries. I understand your query. It is not safe to take abortificient drugs at home without consulting a doctor. The drugs may lead to incomplete abortion and cause heavy bleeding that may need a curetting procedure in emergency in a few cases. So a doctor must be notified and a well equipped hospital must be there in case a need arises. Also these drugs are available only after prescription.
The procedure can be done till 9 weeks but the earlier the better. So please see a doctor and then get the tablets.
Hope this was helpful. Feel free to ask any further queries and I will be happy to help. Thanks for using HCM. Have a good day. Dr Nilajkumar Bagde Consultant Obstetrics and Gynecology
