Is It Safe To Donate Kidney With Two Different Blood Groups?
Hi, I m trying to figure out if I can donate a kidney to my dad who is O positive. I am A positive. Apparently the is a 20% chance I am compatible if I am The A2 sub-type. I read that because my dad is o positive it is more likely that I would be the A2 subtype and not the A1..
Hello and welcome to HCM, In kidney transplant the most important parameter before transplanting the organ is HLA typing. HLA typing is done between recipient and donor. If the HLA matching is more than 3/6, the organ can be donated. An organ can be donated even if the blood groups do not match and HLA typing is compatible. You need to consult your nephrologist for further work up.
