Is It Safe To Drain A 4-day Bartholin Cyst Myself Which Is Worsening Despite Sitz Baths, Hot Compresses, And Constant Severe Pain?
I have what I believe is a Bartholin cyst, for 4 days. I have been doing sitz bath and hot compresses but it is getting more painful- throbbing and burning. I can t sit, stand, lay down or anything without pain. Paracetamol helps a little but it never goes away. What else can I do? Can I try bursting it myself with a needle or something? It s very painful to touch. Thanks for any help
Self-draining is not safe. Never attempt to drain a Bartholincyst at home. If the cyst is painful and worsening despite conservative care, it likely needs professional medical drainage. Visit the ER so that sterile drainage is done by a doctor or a health professional. If needed, you will be given antibiotics and pain-relieving medications for healing and relief.
Do not burst it at home, as it may result in incomplete drainage, uncontrolled bleeding as the area is highly vascular, or may cause infection or even cellulitis.
I hope I have answered your question. Take care.
