Is It Safe To Give Claritin For Throat Pain In Children?
My 13 year old daughter is having trouble swallowing. She is not a complainer and is having trouble eating and swallowing with troat pain. The top of her throat in particular is sore. I am concerned. Her school has had lots of cases of strep throat. Should I taker her tothe doctors. I have been giving her claritin for her allergies hoping that it would help but it isn t. Please advise.
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain pain in swallowing and soreness in throat is most probably due to infection caused by bacteria or virus and the most common infection is due to streptococcus bacteria causing strep throat.. I would suggest you to consult an Otolaryngologist and get her evaluated and he can do throat swab culture to rule out the exact cause of the problem and treat you accordingly..
She can be advised a short course of antibiotics like Amoxicillin or Azithromycin, anti inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen and also do warm saline gargles, steam inhalations and use a humidifier in your room.. You should suck throat lozenges and chew a Vitamin C pellet daily.. You should also avoid spicy and chilled foods..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
